Chinese New Year Celebration in New Zealand 2011

2011 is the Year of Rabbit and according to lunar calendar, Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year is on February 3rd in 2011. According to Chinese zodiac cycle, it will be year 4709. Also known as Spring Festival, it is celebrated all over the

world in major cities and in places where Chinese population is dominant. Part of the celebrations also include exchanging gifts, stitching new dresses, cleaning and decorating houses, buying gifts, attending parties and many other similar activities.

Lantern Festival marks the end of Lunar New Year festivities. Lanterns with images of dragon, lions, historical places, images of important people, and trees are flaunted in homes and other public places. In many places you will also find Lantern festival contests. The one who makes the best lantern wins a prize.
