Popularly known as Spring Festival and Lunar New Year, this grand event is famous all over Singapore for its vibrancy and liveliness.

The celebration of Spring Festival begins with a family gathering dinner on New Year’s Eve. The festival lasts for as many as 15 days. Singapore Chinese New Year celebration includes various multi-cultural events which are perfectly showcased during the celebrations.

Events of the New Year Celebration in Singapore

Chinese New Year celebration in Singapore is also known as the ‘Chun Jie’festival. The major events of this grand festival include Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations, Chingay Parade of Dreams and Singapore River Hong Bao. The event of ‘Chap Goh Mei’is conducted on the last day of the final day of this magnificent celebration.

Other than the decorations of the streets and lanes, the skyrockets that dazzle the sky of the island-country are a major crowd puller of the festival. The festivity starts off with a Country Party. The Countdown Party is the ultimate place where people gather and dance throughout the night.

Singapore’s Chingay Parade is a major highlight of the festival. The parade hosts a party that stretches for two nights; Chingay Parade is often considered the climax of the celebration of the Spring Festival in Singapore. The parade is participated by salsa artists, circus acrobats and traditional dancers of Philippines and also by Taiwanese acrobats.

The huge Firecracker Dragon Dance is one of eye-catchers of the celebration; it takes place on the parade route. Dance troupes from Guangxi city of China come to perform. Some of the other popular events of Chingay parade include Parade Carnival, Orchard Road Mini Parade and Singapore Samba parties.

The carnival at the River Hong Bao of this island country draws the highest tourist footfall during the celebration. This lively and huge fair feature traditional arts, traditional food and folklore of the ancient China. The entire area of the fair remains adorned with floats depicting different mythical creatures, Chinese Gods, legendary Chinese heroes, cherry blossoms and pagodas.
