of the Chinese-speaking people, Chinese New Year is celebrated in different parts of the world. Vancouver is one f the Canadian cities which elaborately celebrated the Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year Celebration in Vancouver, 2011 will be organized by Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver mainly around Chinatown.



The popular festival, Chinese New Year is celebrated with great pomp and show mainly in countries that have significant population of Chinese people. Some of the countries include Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macua, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan. Apart from these countries, this event is also celebrated in Chinatowns of different parts of the world. In Vancouver this event is also grandly celebrated.

Chinese New Year is held on the first Sunday of the Lunar or Chinese New Year in Vancouver. In the year 2011, which is the year of the rabbit, this New Year will be celebrated on 3rd of February. With the whole world, Vancouver also get engrossed in making preparations for celebrating Chinese New Year in the grandest way possible.

Chinese New Year Celebrations in Vancouver

Like every year, Vancouver will witness a grand celebration of Chinese New Year in 2011. A variety of fun activities form the major events of the celebrations. The celebrations in the city begin around late January to the middle of February.

Parade of Chinese New Year in Vancouver

Though a number of events are held around the city, the major highlight is the New Year Parade. One of the most colorful events, the parade sees the

participation of Chinese, Vietnamese as well as Korean people. These people march through the lanes and streets of Chinatown area. This heritage march is witnessed by a large number of tourists who visit Vancouver during the celebration of Chinese New Year. From people wearing colorful dresses to performance of different bands, a number of interesting events form the part of the march. One of the catchiest events of the parade is the Motorcycle Drill Team of the police department. The parade is held on the first Sunday of Chinese New Year, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

Cultural Fair of the Chinese New Year in Vancouver

The cultural fair which is held at the Dr. Sun Yat Sen marks the end of the lively parade. The celebration of the Dr. Sun Yat Sen mainly will comprise ‘hot & noisy’combination of different traditional activities. Perfect for the families, the Chinese term for ‘hot & noise’is ‘re-nao’.

From firecrackers to making red couplet, a lot of things will be form the part of the cultural fair. Some of the most intriguing activities are lion parades of children, giving out red envelopes by grandparents. The cultural fair will also exhibit the thousand years old tradition of China.
