Christmas celebration in Malaysia

Christmas is celebrated in Malaysia on the same day as the world. The birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated on the 25th of December. The festival is not only celebrated by the Christian community, but the people of other communities too. Unlike other countries, white Christmas is not what is found here. A sunny weather and showers of rain alternates during the festival months giving an almost pleasant climate. Christmas celebration in Malaysia is marked by festive

decorations, feasts and traditional functions held in the churches and chapels of the country.

Christmas traditions in Malaysia:

Malaysia celebrates Christmas just like others do, although some of the traditions are celebrated uniquely in the country.

“Advent” is a major candle burning custom in the country. “Advent”signifies Lord’s birth. In Latin, it is also meant as “to come to” or “coming”indicating the return of Jesus Christ. “Advent” begins four weeks ahead of the Christmas day. During this period, the churches are decorated with wreaths and candles. The Advent wreath forms an important part of the celebration. The circular shape of the wreath indicates the nature of Lord. Four candles are placed on the four sides of the wreath. These candles are placed at the end of every week. The candles symbolize peace, love, joy and hope.

The Advent is followed by Christmas decorations, exchange of gifts and holy services in the churches of Malaysia.

Famous churches in Malaysia:
