Easter Egg Hunt

Easter is a sacred celebration among the Christians. This marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This is perhaps the holiest and the oldest Christian festival. The date of Easter holiday changes every year because

the actual date is fixed on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox. Easter festival usually comes between 22nd March and 25th April. 2011 Easter Sunday will fall on 24th April. One important feature of this festival is Easter Egg Hunt. Easter Eggs are special eggs that are used to celebrate the occasion. Easter Egg Hunt is a fun game, meant for the children. Boiled eggs, decorated eggs or the artificial ones are hidden in various places for the children to find. It may be an indoor game or an outdoor game. In the Pagan celebrations of spring, egg was considered as a symbol of rebirth of earth. Later egg was adopted by the Christians as indicating the rebirth of man on the day of Easter. At the end of egg hunt, prizes are distributed for various achievements. The achievements may be collecting largest number of eggs or collecting the smallest one or the largest one or picking egg of a particular color.

Easter Egg traditions


In different countries in the world, the nature of this festival varies markedly. In the Northern part of England, the occasion is celebrated in a conventional manner. Hard boiled eggs are given away among the players. Each player tries to touch the egg of other players with their own. This game is popularly known as ‘egg tapping’. The Peterlee Cricket Club arranges this annual ‘egg tapping’competition. In many other countries such as Ukraine, Serbia, Lebanon, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Lithuania, Hungary and Bulgaria also, this game is organized annually. In Germany this is known as Opfer, in Switzerland, it is called as
Ostereiertitschen or Eierpecken. Other versions of this game are egg dance, the pace egg plays and egg rolling.

Unique Egg Hunt Ideas


Easter holidays are indeed cool time of the year. People get time off their work and enjoy the game. Here below is a list of few unique Easter Egg Hunt Ideas.

Find Your Name Egg Hunt
Write name of each person/player on each egg. The person who finds the egg containing his name first, wins the game.

Odd or Even Egg Hunt
First you write even or odd numbers on each egg. You can assign each kid in searching the one containing a particular even or odd number.

Night-time Egg Hunt
You can arrange night time egg hunt contest for the older kids. Allow everyone a cheap flashlight to look for their eggs.

Color- Coded toys
You can hide small toys inside plastic eggs. You can also give special color to the egg containing the gift.

Secret Prizes
You can hide special Easter eggs with little notes inside it. In that little note, the name of the prize that will be given is written. You can keep stuffed bunnies, chocolate, chicks, candies and toys as prizes. You however make sure that everyone gets prize.
