Meknes, one of the colorful and historic cities, is the smallest city out of the four imperial cities of Morocco. It is a city situated in northern Morocco. The name Meknes has been derived from the Berber tribe which was called as Miknasa in the medieval Arabic sources. Volubilis: It is an archaeological site in Morocco which is located very near to Meknes. The Roman remains of Volubilis, spread over an area of more than 40 hectares, are the most well conserved ruins in Morocco. One who visits Meknes should definitely visit this place.

Moulay Idriss: The holy city of Moulay Idriss was set up in 788 A.D. The city is perched upon the rock region of Khiber and Tazga with houses encompassed by hills. The mausoleum and town have been named after Moulay Idriss who is the founder of the first state of Morocco and the most respected saint.

Dar Jamai Museum: Before it started keeping the Meknes collections, Dar Jamai was used for different purposes. Constructed in the year 1882, it was originally meant to be the dwelling place of the Jamai family. However, it was used as a military hospital after the year 1912. Sculpted plaster and painted wood and the cypress and fruit trees in the Andalusia garden will give you an idea about the extent of luxury enjoyed by the affluent bourgeoisie of Meknes. It became the Museum of Moroccon Art in the year 1920. This Museum is now totally dedicated to the crafts of the region. There are different types of wooden sculpture, brass and copper ware, leather work, wrought iron work and metalwork housed in this Museum.

How to Reach Meknes
If you are planning a trip to Meknes, then you can easily reach that place via flight. Royal Air Maroc flies five times every week from New York to Fez via Marrakech. In addition to these flights, the airlines also have non-stop flights from European cities including London and Paris, to Fez.

Best Time to Visit Meknes
Morocco is usually very hot during the summer months i.e. from June to August. However, the winter is usually dry. The best time to visit Meknes is during Autumn and Spring since the weather condition out there is very pleasant during this time of the year.
