French Music Festivals

Summer is the main time of the year when music festivals in France are held. They are held between May and September. Most of the cities and towns in France host music festivals. Music festivals attract thousands of visitors from far and wide. The most popular music festivals held in the country are given below.

Fete de la Musique
Fete de la Musique is one of the top most French Music festivals. It is held every year in the month of June all over France. The festival showcases concerts, folk music of France, jazz, reggae, and hip hop. Every street corner comes alive with music and the event is a treat for the music lovers. This festival is celebrated in all the big cities. In smaller cities, however, you will hear more of folk and traditional stuff. There are food stalls and eateries at the festival venue. So, you can enjoy light snacks and enjoy music that fills the air.

  • Charlie Jazz Festival
    The venue of the festival is Le Domaine de Fontblanche in Provence. Le Domaine de Fontblanche is a garden that is open to public throughout the day. The Charlie Jazz festival is held in the month of July. International and local artists perform at the festival. You will also find local artists. The festival also serves as a platform for the young budding artists. Daniel Humair, Aldo Romanco, Louis Sclavis, David Linx, Chris Potter, Bojan Z, the Vienna Art Orchestra, Michel Portal, and Diederik Wissels perform at the music festival in France.

  • Eurockeennes
    Eurockeennes is France’s largest rock music festival. It is held close to Belfort in Malsaucy. In 2010, the festival was held in the month of July on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The festival started for the first time in the year 1989. At that point of time it was known as Le Ballon –Territoire de musiques. Three eminent artists who performed in 2010 were Kasabian and Jay Z, and Massive Attack.

  • Besancon International Music Festival
    The Besancon International Music Festival is a classical music festival held in Besancon in France. It is one of the oldest music festivals and was held first in the year 1948. It is held around mid September. One of the main highlights of the festival is felicitating the music directors. This event is known as International Besancin Competition for Young Conductors. This felicitation event started in 1951 and is held every 2 years. Eminent conductors or music directors who have been recognized for their contribution in the field of music include Zdenek Macal, Seiji Ozawa, Sylvain Cambreling, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, and Michel Plasson.

  • Festival de Nimes
    Festival de Nimes is held in the month of July. The venue for this grand event is Arenes de Nimes. Artists taking part in this festival include ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai and the like.
