Holi in Different Parts of the World

The Indians who are settled in England, take the Holi to get the feel of their roots. In different parts of United Kingdom, large gatherings of the Indians are observed. The city of Leicester is particularly well known for Holi celebrations. People, especially the children spray colors to others. Special parades are organized on this day. People visit friends’place in the evening and greetings are exchanged with each other.

As there is a large Indian population settled in the United States, Holi is celebrated with much fanfare in USA. In USA, different organizations are formed by the Indians to celebrate the festival. A large number of Gujratis and other Indians are present in South Africa. The Indians present in this country celebrate Holi in a big way. People play with dry and wet colors, sing songs, light bonfires and exchange sweets and greetings among each other. Indians are mainly concentrated in the Natal and Transvaal areas of the country. Quite naturally, Holi is celebrated in a grand way in these areas.

In fact, the day of the Holi is observed as the official holiday in the country. True to the spirit of this festival, people get drenched with colors on this day. Holi in Trinidad & Tobago

The Hindu festival of Holi is celebrated with pomp and enthusiasm in the West Indian twin island states of Trinidad and Tobago. The festive celebration here is popularly known as Phagwa. Holi is being observed in the island of Trinidad since 1845. In the present time, Holi celebrations in the islands are marked with dance, music, songs and colors. Chowtal, a special type of folk song, is sung on this occasion.
