People from all parts of the country visit these two cities during this time of the year. As the Lord Krishna used to play the game of colors & water the gopis, people try to celebrate the occasion in the same way. Major celebrations take place at Bakai-Bihari Temple at Vrindavan and the Gulal-Kund in Braj.

    • Holi in Barsana

    Barsana is the birthplace of Radha, the consort of the Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna along with his followers used to visit the village of Barsana from Mathura every year on the occasion of Holi. They used to play the game of colors with the girls of the Barsana village. The same tradition is still going on. Even now, males in large numbers visit the village of Barsana from Mathura on this occasion to play the game of colors with the women folk of Barsana village.

    • Holi in Gujarat

    Holi is celebrated in a big way, in this vibrant state. People here show great energy and enthusiasm on this occasion. Totally drenched in colors, people greet each other. Human pyramids are formed to break the pot filled with butter milk. The pot is kept at a high place in the street by a rope.

    • Holi in Haryana

    In the state of Haryana, Holy is popularly known as Dulandi Holi. There is no dearth of fun & enjoyment on this festive occasion. People sprinkle colors to others and greet each other. People take the occasion to shrug off all the feelings of animosity and enmity. Like in many other states, the tradition of breaking the pot is celebrated with much vigor and enthusiasm.
