Nicknamed as “The Golden City”, Jaisalmer is a beautiful town in Rajasthan and is one of the popular places in India with a huge tourist interest. Located in the western part of the state, amidst the Thar desert, Jaisalmer is the place of
yellowish sandstone structures, finely sculptured temples, sea of sands and the brilliance of Rajput architecture. Named after its founder Rawal Jaisal, Jaisalmer is also popularly known as the Golden City due to the yellowish-golden touch that the yellow sand gives to the city and its surrounding area. One of the popular places in India, Jaisalmer is also one of the major tourist attractions in Rajasthan that attracts a huge number of domestic as well as international

tourists every year. If you want to explore the beauty of the yellow sand, and if you want to have a look of the rich Rajput architecture, you must come in at Jaisalmer. A tour to Jaisalmer could well be the experience of your life time. The best time to visit Jaisalmer is between October to March. The winter, between November and February, is quite pleasant during the day time, but the night can be really chilly. The monsoon starts from the late June and comes as a huge relief after the scorching heat of the summer. The autumn is the most pleasant season in Jaisalmer.

If you want to come down to Jaisalmer by air, the nearest airport is Jodhpur airport. You can take a car or bus to reach Jaisalmer from Jodhpur. Jaisalmer is also well connected with a number of places throughout the country by rail. This
place is also well connected by road with other destinations withing the state. The main bus stand of the town is located very close to the railway station. You will find buses for Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, and Barmer from this bus stand.

The prime attraction of Jaisalmer is the Jaisalmer Fort. Built in 1156 by the Bhati Rajput ruler Jaisal, this popular fort of Rajasthan is located on the Trikuta Hill. A quarter of the city's population still live inside the fort. Visit Rah Mahal, Jain temples and the Laxminath temple inside the fort. Jaisalmer is the place of a number of Havelis. Visit some of the popular Havelis like Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salim Sing-ki-Haveli, Nathmalji-ki-Haveli. While in Jaisalmer, you can also visit the museums like Desert Culture Centre & Museum, Jaisalmer Folklore Museum, Government Museum etc. Gadsisar Lake is also another popular tourist attraction in Jaisalmer.
