Udaipur

Udaipur is a wonderful city in Rajasthan, which is known for its whitewashed buildings, marble palaces, lakeside gardens, temples, and havelis. Founded in 1568 by Maharana Udai Singh, Udaipur is arguably the most romantic city in the state of Rajasthan. Once the capital of the former kingdom of Mewar, Udaipur is currently
the headquarter of Udaipur District. Built around the Lake Pichola, Udaipur is popularly known as the “Venice of the East” and the “City of Lakes”, as the city boasts of a number of beautiful lakes including Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar. The city of Udaipur is also known for its brilliant palaces of the Rajput era. Lake Palace is one of such beautiful palaces that covers the entire island in Pichola Lake.

Currently many of the palaces have been converted into luxury hotels where the tourists can enjoy the luxury in a grand style. One of the popular places in India and a land of rich culture and heritage, Udaipur has a lot to offer to the tourists. Udaipur has typically north Indian climate. Summer here could be really hot, with the mercury may rise up to 42 degrees Celsius during the day time in May – June. Therefore, it is not advisable at all to visit Udaipur during the summer. The rains bring some relief from this scorching heat, which usually come late June. Winter in Udaipur is warm during the day time, but can be quite chilly during the night. The best time to visit Udaipur is the Autumn when the climate remains most pleasant.

Getting in to Udaipur is quite easy as the place is well connected with the rest of the country through air, rail and road. If you want to reach Udaipur by air, you have to reach at Dabok Airport, also known as Maharana Pratap Airport, which is located just 24 kms from the city center. You will find a number of flights to Udaipur from different parts of the country including Jodhpur, Jaipur, Aurangabad, Mumbai and Delhi. Those who want to reach Udaipur by train, can take trains from Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kota, Mathura, Kolkata, Mumbai etc. Udaipur is also well connected with the rest of the country by road. The city lies in between Delhi and Mumbai on National Highway 8.

The city has a number of beautiful palaces that include Lake Palace, City Palace, Bagore-ki-Haveli etc. You should also visit some of the beautiful lakes that the city is know for, including Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar.
