Sports Events in India 2011

A variety of sports are practiced in India. The country hosts numerous sports events throughout the year. Many sports events will be held in the country in 2011 also. The most important sports event that the country is going to host in 2011

would be the most awaiting World Cup Cricket 2011. This will be the tenth edition of this prestigious tournament. The final will be played in the Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai, on 2nd April. India will host this mega cricketing event along with two other South Asian cricket playing nations Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Apart from this mega international cricketing events, like every year, in 2011 also many domestic cricket tournaments will be held in India. The other important cricket tournaments that will be held in the country in 2011 are Indian Premier League, Ranji Trophy, Irany Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and Challenger Trophy.

Football is another sport which is widely followed in the country. Major football tournaments are held every year in the country are the IFA Shield, Durnad Cup, Federation Cup, Santosh Trophy, Nehru Cup International Football Tournament and various other regional football tournaments. Durand Trophy is the oldest football tournament in the country. Another sport in which India boasts of a glorious past is hockey. A variety of hockey tournaments are held in the country throughout the year. Like in every year, in 2001, India will host tournaments such as All India MCC Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, All India Aagha Khan Hockey Tournament, All India Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament, All India Lal Bahadur Shastri Hockey Tournament, All India Gurmeet Memorial Hockey Tournament, All India Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament, All India K D Singh Babu Memorial Invitational

Prize Money Hockey Tournament, Junior National Hockey Tournament and many other tournaments. Ever since the inception of All India Tennis Association (AITA), the popularity of tennis is growing in the country. Presently, the major tennis tournaments in the country are the Chennai Open, Sunfest Open and the Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open.

Like every year country will host several golf tournaments in 2011. The tournaments will be Aamby Valley Asian Masters, Avantha Masters, Hero Honda Indian Open, Indian Masters and the SAIL Open. A variety of snooker tournaments are held in the country every year. The snooker tournaments in the country include All India 9 Ball Pool League, the All India Junior Open Snooker Tournament, the All India Invitational Snooker Championship, the Snooker Tournament and many more. Aside from these, sports events in India 2001 will include various tournaments in Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, athletics, archery and many other sports.
