The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary also known as the Keoladeo National Park is situated at Bharatpur, Rajasthan (the largest state of India). It is not only one of the best known but the most beautiful man made bird sanctuary
of India. A visit to this sanctuary must be the top most priority of the visitors, if planning a trip to India or the state of Rajasthan.Regarding its location, it needs to be stated here that this bird sanctuary is well linked with the railway network to Agra, Jaipur, Delhi and Mumbai. From Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, it’s just a few hours drive and from the Agra Airport, it takes just 56 minutes. The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary occupies a vast expanse of land, to be specific; it covers an area of 29 kilometers and is the home to a wide array of 300 species of birds. This number increases, as the migratory birds opt for this sanctuary to spend the winter season. Apart from the migratory land birds as well as the migratory water birds, the chatter of the other birds that you would hear are the water birds, 56 species of Chradriformes and 126 species of Passeriformes. Thus it could be said that it is the Passeriformes that dominates this sanctuary.

However, it is the migratory bird, Siberian Crane that has succeeded to draw the attention of the tourists with its unique traits. If you wish to get a view of this bird, then you are required to pay a visit to this sanctuary from the months of
December to March, as it stays only for these few months and then fly back to its homeland, Siberia. The other migratory birds are the Siberian leaf warber, Dalamatian Pelicans, Flamingo, Rosy Pelican, Spanish Sparrow and apart from these there are others as well.

The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is also home to the species of geese, ducks, wagtails, larks, dartes, kingfishers, storks, flycatchers, larks, buntings, herons, buntings, spoonbills and others as well. So just be alert, to catch a glimpse of these birds, in their natural habitat.

To explore this sanctuary, you can opt for nature trails or can opt for the activity of bird watching. The activity of bird watching would definitely prove to be a mind boggling experience for sure.

It needs to be stated here that if you wish to get a view of the migratory birds as well as the other birds, who reside at this place, then the best time for your visit would be the months from October to February.
