Kaziranga National Park is one of the major tourist attractions in Assam, especially for the wildlife lovers. The oldest park in Assam, a part of Kaziranga National Park lies in Golaghat District while another part falls on Nagaon District of Assam.
The National Highway 37 passes through this 430 sq km park in Assam. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park is famous for the renowned Indian one-horned rhinoceros. It is the place of largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses in the world. To add with this, there are bold and beautiful dense forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes & shallow pools in the park to woo you. To give you company sometime, there are also a

number of mammals including tigers, elephants, panthers, bears, and thousands of birds in the Kaziranga National Park. Declared as National Park in the year 1974, Kaziranga National Park attracts a huge number of wildlife lovers from all the parts of the nation and abroad every year. If you want to taste the wilderness of the east, explore the dense greens and want to have a rendezvous with the one-horned rhinoceros, you must come in at Kaziranga National Park. Though the major attraction of Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary is the famous one-horned Rhinoceros, yet this Wildlife Sanctuary of India offers a lot more. Kaziranga National Park is the home to a large number of elephants, Indian bison, swamp deer, hog deer, sloth bears, tigers, leopards, jungle cats, hog badgers, capped langurs, hoolock gibbons, wild boar, wild buffalo, pythons, and monitor lizards etc.

Kaziranga National Park is also a paradise for the bird watchers and bird lovers. A large number of migratory birds descend on the lakes of the parks during the winters, that include Greylag Geese, Bar-Headed Geese, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Falcated Duck, Red-Crested Pochard, and Northern
Shoveller.

While in Kaziranga National Park, you must go for an Elephant Safari. It is an elephant-back-ride to explore the park. Authorized and trained “Mahouts” would guide you through the park and help you to explore the wildlife.

The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park, one of the top attractions in India, is from mid-November to early April. During the monsoon, many animals have to migrate to different areas within the park as the flood water from Brahmaputra river submerges the low-lying grasslands of the park.

In order to reach Kaziranga National Park, one of the popular tourist attractions in Assam, you have to come to Guwahati (217 km) or Jorhat (97 km) first if you are coming down by air. If you want to come here by rail, you have to come at Furkating, 75 km away from Kaziranga. Kaziranga National Park is connected with a number of destinations in Assam by road that include Guwahati, Tezpur, and other places of Upper Assam.
