Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands is a group of 18 islands located in the Pacific Ocean. The Galapagos archipelago is best known for the volcanic islands that are situated near the equator region of the Pacific Ocean. This is one of the best known places of tourist interest in the world and sees a large number of footfall annually year after year. Tourists not only visit this area to take a look at the beautiful locales but also to study the varied wildlife found in the islands surrounding the Pacific Ocean. The water cruise is another attraction of the Galapagos Islands. Travel to these Pacific Ocean islands to enjoy a thrilling holiday.

Best Time of the Year for a Galapagos Islands Visit

According to weather experts there is no definite time to pay a visit to the Galapagos Islands of the Pacific Ocean. Therefore the best time of the year for traveling to these islands largely depends upon the tolerance level of the tourist. The tolerance level again depends upon the tourist’s ability to bear heat, rains and the waters in the sea and also your ability to spend on the trip.

The summer and winter months are the best period of the year for a Galapagos Island travel. The reason behind choosing this time is nothing other than the fact that it is a holiday season in every other part of the world. This also means that a Galapagos Island vacation is easy to plan as you already have holidays assigned to you during the summer and winter seasons every year. Do not visit these Pacific Ocean islands in springtime because this is that time of the year when there is constant heavy rainfall, making travel impossible.

The prices of accommodation, restaurants and cruises rise considerably in the summers and winters and sometimes an advance booking becomes absolutely necessary. If you want to enjoy traveling around the island and also want good weather conditions, tour the Galapagos Islands during the beginning of the year in the months of January and February. There is scarce rainfall during these months and the sun is warm enough for outdoor activities like snorkeling, sunbathing and swimming. Since this time of year is not the prime season to visit these islands, the rates of accommodation is also low. The crowds too will be less than normal, increasing your chances to see the maximum variety of wildlife.

If you are interested in hiking and diving, the summer months of June through August and the winter months of December and the first part of January is the best time for a Galapagos Island tour. The islands also have a variety of birds and the best time for bird watching is from April to June.

As you will have seen by now, there is no perfect time to visit the Pacific Ocean islands. Choose your own time keeping in mind the Galapagos Island weather that suites you the most and the rates of places where you will stay.

Things to See in the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands is an amalgamation of 18 islands and a trip to each one of them is worth your money. However, it is not possible to tour each island in a short vacation. Here is a list of the places that you must go to while on a Galapagos Island vacation.

  • Espanola Island – this is the oldest among the 18 islands of Galapagos. The Hood Island, as it is popularly known as, is home to the waved species of the albatross bird and is a must visit on every tourist’s list.

  • Floreana Island – this is the southernmost island in the Galapagos archipelago and is home to an extinct volcano of Galapagos. Floreana was one of the oldest business bays of the region and one of the oldest places where traces of humankind have been found. Thus Floreana is also a historical site.

  • Baltra – Baltra is the first place that a tourist normally sees while on a Galapagos Island vacation. The Island airport is located in this region. Baltra is also the place from where you can quickly travel to the other tourist sites of the Galapagos Islands.

  • Fernandina Island – this is the youngest of the 18 islands of Galapagos. Human life barely exists here and therefore the only plant to be seen in this island is the cactus. It is because of the fact that the island is almost uninhabited that Fernandina is referred to as a pristine island; in fact it is the largest pristine island in the world.

  • North Seymour Island – this island which is known for its flat landscape is home to some of the densest forests in the islands. As you walk along the island, you will walk into the Palo Santo forest where you can see some unusual species of birds and plants. The frigate bird is the most common that you will see here. Blue-footed boobies, sea lions and marine iguanas can also be seen.
