The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is a major Malaysian attraction that is frequented by the visitors throughout the year. The park was established in 1991 and was

officially inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia, Tunku Bainun. The park is located about 10 minutes from City Center. The Bird park is actually a part of the an area called the Lake Gardens.

If you wish to take a look at the Horn bill bird species then a visit to the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is a must. This is a world renowned park and is acknowledged as the "The World's Largest Covered Bird Park" or "The World's largest Free Flight Aviary". Very near the Bird park is the Taman Orchid or the Orchid Garden, which has different varieties of flora that are quite amazing.

The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park has over 3,000 birds and 200 species collected from all over the world. So if you are an ardent bird watcher or nature lover, then this is the place to be. Moving around the greeneries and watching the birds in their natural habitats will be more than just fun. Do not be surprised if you come across specially designed or landscape gardens while roaming in the park. These have been specially made for imparting a natural feel to the whole surrounding. The miniature gardens, pools with water cascading, bridges, flowering plants are only some of landscape features of the park. If you happen to find your way to a bird feeding station, then do watch out how the birds are fed by the staff who take care of them.

In spite of being old fashioned, the warmth and the coziness of the park is

very much inviting. After you cross the main gate entrance, you will get a wristlet which you are supposed to take off while you leave the place. Tourists visiting from across the globe have to pay more than the locals. There are four divisions of the park, four zones for the benefit of the visitors frequenting the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. You will come across a Flamingo pond, Pelicans,Amphitheater, Children's playground, Horn bill Park, World of Parrots, a Waterfall Aviary and Seminar Room.

In order to prevent the clashing of the birds, the tourists have to go through several lock gates. Every care is taken on the part of the park staff and authorities to keep a check on the birds and even the movement of the tourists. Letting the birds free in the aviary is one of the main features of the park. They move about as if they are moving in their natural habitat. This sort of arrangement helps the birds to breed naturally in the beautifully landscaped surroundings.

The bird collection comprise Flamingos, Hornbills, Waterhens, Parrots, Cockatoos, Storks, Pheasants, Mynahs Pigeons, Macaws. Ducks. These have been mostly collected from countries like Malaysia, Australia, Africa, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Indonesia, Tanzania, China, Holland, South America and other countries South East Asian countries.
