Cavadee: Being one of the main festivals in Mauritius, this is celebrated in the months of January and February. This is one of the festivals which is dominated with fire walking as well as sword climbing ceremonies. Other than this, various spectacular Tamil events. Cavadee is a wooden arch which is carried by the devotees and their body is pierced with needles. The arch is covered with flowers.

Diwali: One of the major festivals in Mauritius, this was first started by the people of Indian origin staying there. This festival is celebrated in the months of October and November. The purpose of this festival is to celebrate the victory of good over evil. Oil lamps are lit in the houses. The places look like a fairyland and even crackers are also burst.

Chinese Spring Festival: This important festival in Mauritius has been first started by the people of the Chinese origin. Celebrated in the months of January and February, the main color of this festival is red. Lot of food is piled in one place which ensures the abundance of food all the year round. In this festival you will also get to see the traditional wax cake. Firecrackers are also burnt during this time.

Eid Ul Fitr: Among of the festivals in Mauritius, this festival is celebrated after the end of the month of Ramzan and is one of the main festivals for the people of Islamic origin. This festival is celebrated after fasting for the holy month. Prayers are offered in the mosques and good food is cooked.

Ganesh Chaturthi: One of the top festivals in Mauritius, this is celebrated in the month of September and is major festival for the people of Indian origin. This festival marks the birth of Ganesha, a mythological character of the Hindu mythology.

Maha Shivaratri: Among the festivals in Mauritius, Maha Shivaratri is celebrated by the Indians especially the Hindus staying there. This is celebrated in the month of February. The devotees carry wooden arches or Kawar as it is known which is decorated with flowers.

Holi: Festival of color, Holi, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Mauritius by the people of Indian origin. Being one of the top festivals in Mauritius, this festival is all about sprinkling colored water as well as powder on each other. In this festival people exchange gifts as well as exchange sweets amongst themselves.
