While in Mauritius, if you want to send a couple of days in a calm and serene village, you must come in to Mahebourg. Mahebourg is a wonderful town that would remind you of the French and Dutch colonial history in its every planning of roads. Mahebourg lost its importance when the French chose Port Louis as the main port. The history of the past is still conserved in the Naval Museum. Housed in the French colonial mansion where both the English and French naval commanders wounded in battle in 1810, this museum can be of great attraction especially to the history lovers. The museum showcases some recovered objects from the shipwrecks along the Mauritian coast, such as the bell of the St. Geran which sank back in 1744. You will also find the wrecks from the British frigate, Magiciennes, that sank during the French-British naval battle in 1810. The
Mahebourg is also the place for natural beauty. Though Mahebourg doesn't have a beach, it has a wonderful waterfront. A number of people come here for evening strolls. Just come here and sit on any of the bench with your special one, it would really be a memorable experience for you. You can also go to the jetty with a pavilion, from where you can see some wonderful tropical fish.
