Geography of Mexico

Mexico is a popular country of American continent. The geography of Mexico includes both the physical and human geography. Mexico is surrounded by various countries. The country covers much of the southern part of North America. On the north of Mexico is united States, the western and southern part of the is surrounded by the
pacific ocean. Mexico has the largest Spanish speaking people. The Mexico is located on the North American Plate. The geography of Mexico will help to know about the countries physical aspects. Mexico is called by three different names Mexico, United Mexican States and Mexican Republic. The total area of the Mexico is 1,972,550 square

kilometers. This comprise 6,000 square kilometers of islands in the Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of California and Caribbean Sea. The Border that Mexico shares with United States is 5,000 kilometer. The coastline of the Mexico is 9,330 kilometers. Out of this coastline the 7,338 kilometers of the coastline faces Pacific Ocean. The coastline with the Gulf of Mexico is 2,805. The landmass of the country becomes narrow as one moves from southeasterly direction.

The climate of Mexico is divided into the tropical and climatic zones. The land which is located in the north of twenty fourth parallel have cool temperatures in winter. The temperature of the country varies according to the elevation. The areas which are located in the south of twentieth-fourth parallel experience the median temperatures. The median temperature is between 24°C and 28°C. In some of the areas of the Mexico the temperature drops down to 5ºC. In the areas with the elevation between 1,000 and 2,000 meters one will experience an average temperature of about
16ºC. The summers are hot and winters are relatively cold in Mexico. The country also experience good amount of rainfall. Rainfall varies according to the season and the location of the area. The average rainfall in some of the regions of the country is between 300 and 600 millimeter per year. In some areas the rainfall is even less than this. The driest month is February and the wettest is the July. Mexico experience both dry and wet seasons equally. The Mexico city the capital of the country experience the rainfall of 5 millimeters of rain in the month of February. Large amount of rainfall is experienced in month of September along the Gulf of Mexico. The hurricane belt lies squarely in Mexico that is why many times the country has been hit by worst hurricane. In a year several hurricanes hit especially in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean coastline.

The geography of the Mexico is very diverse. The country is facing many environmental challenges. The cattle raising and agriculture has stripped of the tropical forests in many areas. In the past ten years the country has faced many challenges which are effecting the enviroment of the country. The tropical sections of the country is loosing its beauty. In future also one can expect many changes in the geography of Mexico.
