Museo del Templo Mayor
The temple is 197 ft high above the ritual precinct of the city. It is no doubt an interesting tourist destination. If you are planning a trip to Mexico and want to explore the place in a different way, then you must visit this historical temple that was destroyed in the year 1521, after the conquest of the Aztec empire by the Spanish conquistadors under the control of Herní¡n Cortes.
Many small buildings as well as platforms connected to the Great Temple and that formed a closely-covered complex around its main base. As it has its own historical significance, so tourists who have keen interest in history would definitely be satisfied after visiting this famous temple. Between the years 1978 to 1987, the Templo Mayor was excavated by a successful major project that was directed by Eduardo Matos Moctezuma.
The Museo del Templo Mayor features total eight rooms and all the rooms display thousands of objects collected from various places across Mexico. Not only archaeological materials, the museum also displays reliefs, sculptures and many other interesting things found in that local area.
The most important features of Templo Mayor are the two shrines. Between these two shrines, one is dedicated to the god of war Huizilopochtli and another one is dedicated to the rain god who was known as Tlí¡loc.
