Islands in New Zealand

New Zealand is situated on the western side of Pacific Ocean. The meaning of New Zealnd means the land with white cloud. It constitutes of several islands, among which the prominent Islands in New Zealand are the North island and South Island. Capital of New Zealand is Wellington, which is situated at the North island and the largest city is Auckland, which is also in the North Island. Official language of this country is Maori along with English. Total area of New Zealand is 2, 68, 68- square kilometer. This is not a much populated place in comparison to other countries of the world.

As there are large group of Islands in New Zealand, it is referred as island country. Two of them are much larger than the rest and most of the people of New Zealand live in these two islands, which are known as North island and South Island. Often the South island is referred as mainland by the people staying in this country, the reason being its larger size but with low population in respect to the North Island. Out of the remaining islands, Stewart isl;and or Rakiura is the largest one. Out of the small Islands in New Zealand, Waiheke Island is having the largest population.

Some of the Islands in New Zealand are known as Open Sea Islands of New Zealand. It constitutes of Anchor Island, Alderman Island, Aroha Island, Big South Cape Island, Chalky Island, Bench Island, Dragon Island and many more. North island and south island are also parts of this group of islands. Some other popular Islands in New Zealand are Tirtiri Matangi Island, Whale Island, Tpu Te Ranga Motu Island, Rabbit Island, etcetera. It reveals from some of these names that some of the islands are named after animals, the reason might be that these animals re found in abundance in these islands.

In some Islands in New Zealand, famous heritage and historical destinations are located. As this is an island country, so there are lots of coasts and these shores are visited by tourists for watching whales and rare species of birds. Some of these islands are marked for watching wildlife and there are tours available which will take to the remote locations where you can experience New Zealand in its original flavor.
