Ghana or Republic of Ghana, as it is known as, is one of the countries located in West Africa. The word Ghana means “warrior king’and the empire derived its name from the early empire of Ghana.

Even though Ghana is regarded as a place for that was used as a living place of the slaves during the colonial times, but there are many places of historical interest. Apart from the ancient and heritage structures, there are various lakes, both natural and man made, mountains etc. In fact it also has some of the basins, which are pretty famous.
Famous Holiday Destinations
Volta Basin
Located in the central part of Ghana, Volta Basin is located in the northern part and lies near Lake Volta, is one of the most visited holiday destinations in Ghana. This basin is very famous, which is made up of soil and Voltaian sandstone and is used for farming and cultivation purposes. As the basin is located near a river, it is also used for boating purpose. If you want you can also put up at the resorts situated near the river and enjoy your vacation.
Bui National Park
Bui National Park is one of the largest protected wildlife sanctuaries where you can drop in to have a look at various types of wild animals. The park mostly consists of huge stretches of land, consisting mainly of woodlands and several other tress and vegetation. There are wide varieties of fauna also which includes wild animals like hippopotamus, baboons, roan, antelope and various other types of wild animals. There are hills which is located nearby offering good view of the surrounding areas.
National Museum
Trip to museum is fun and informative, as you can come to know about various civilizations and history of a particular region. National Museum is one such holiday destinations in Ghana, where you can drop in to know about the history of the region.
The museum is made up of different sections and in each of the sections you can see objects and artifacts, belonging to that particular period. The various sections in which the museum is divided is namely fine art, archaeology, ethnography etc. The museum also houses art work and various other items from other African regions, including rare items.
Castles and Forts
Holiday destinations in Ghana are incomplete without mentioning about the various forts and castles. Most of the forts and castles were used mostly during slave trade. Most of the forts and castles were built during the 16th century and are mostly in dilapidated structure. In most of the castles and forts, guided tours are available, from which you can come to know about the background of the structures. At times various cultural shows are also held in the castle grounds, which are popular among tourists.
