Historical Sites in Russia

Historical sites in Russia are filled with various World Heritage Sites, residence of famous Russians including the residents of politicians, humanitarians, artists and scholars, War memorials, popular Russian museums and other sites. One of the most visited historical sites in Russia is the Novgorod Kremlin. This is the monument of purely Russian architecture of X-XVII centuries. The group of

St-Sophia’s Cathedral is the oldest decorated stone church of Russia. Prince Yaroslav the Wise set the cornerstone and his son Prince Vladimir constructed it as the church of the entire city. Architects from Kiev and Byzantium who raised the one and the only cathedral in the city in the eleventh century, demonstrated the essence of Novgorodian character which are restraint, scale of intentions, verging on severity and power. One of the major historical sites of Russia is the Museum of Wooden Architecture, Vitoslavlitsi. This is a natural and architectural open-air museum located close to the Yuryev Monastery. The Museum renovates the image of the villages of Russia and exhibits the way of life maintained by the Russian peasants. Inside the museum the churches and chapels of the VI to VIII centuries, and also household buildings and peasant are demonstrated.

The furniture, assembled in expeditions, various house-hold implements and other important things that made up the way of life of the peasants during that period.
The first quarter two story house of the 19th century, constructed for Countess A. Orlova-Chesmenskaya, provides space for a stationary exhibition being titled, Folk Art of the Novgorod Region.

The Yaroslav Estate and former marketplace is the economic and political centre of the old Novgorod republic, got the name due to the palace of Yaroslav The Wise, which was situated there in the eleventh century. The Marketplace situated close to The Yaroslav Estate and in the XVI century it comprised of a couple of landing stages and 42 rows of stall, extended out along the river, Volchov. The major lively place of Novgorod was the marketplace. Various merchants from a number of countries were received here, and afterwards foreign Gothic and German courts took place at this place. By the request of Novgorodian and other foreign merchants the construction of churches were set in motion here.
