The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best art galleries in Russia which is compared with the enormous Hermitage Museum at St. Petersburg in Moscow and it features an impressive accumulation starting from the antiquities of Rome to the canvasses by Gauguin. The museum was constructed in the year, 1912 by the father of the renowned Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva, who was well known in Moscow as a Professor in the field of Art History at the Moscow State University. The former collection was constituted mainly of casts of antique, Roman and medieval sculptures, which were more or less polemically, grew with artifacts from private assembling that were seized after the Revolution of 1917. The Museum of Modern Art is established on the original collection of the erstwhile Academy of Arts Director Zurab Tsereteli.
