These works constituted the basis from which the impressive collection of today grew. Sans the far-reaching and bounteous patronage of the arts of Tretyakov most of the Russian artists would have not been able to attain the success in the field of art that they did and the domain of Russian art would be substantially diminished. Along side the paintings Tretyakov also liberally donated his own house and encircling buildings, which became the main premises of the gallery. All these buildings were combined under one neo-Russian frontage, configured by the famous Russian artist Viktor Vasnetsov, and the art gallery was opened up to the public.
The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best art galleries in Russia which is compared with the enormous Hermitage Museum at St. Petersburg in Moscow and it features an impressive accumulation starting from the antiquities of Rome to the canvasses by Gauguin. The museum was constructed in the year, 1912 by the father of the renowned Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva, who was well known in Moscow as a Professor in the field of Art History at the Moscow State University. The Museum of Modern Art is established on the original collection of the erstwhile Academy of Arts Director Zurab Tsereteli. Today the museum features a total of more than 1,500 works of the 20th century European art which covers all the reputed schools like avant-garde, futurism, constructivism, realism, cubism, etc and featuring works by a number of renowned European and Russian artists, which include Chagall, Kandinsky, Goncharova, Malevich, Shemiakin, Picasso, Kustodiyev, Popova, Petrov-Vodkin and Konchalovsky and many more. The museum contains regular as well as temporary exhibitions. This is one of the art galleries in Russia which is something that all modern art lovers must see.
The large and beautiful Central House of Artists bears within itself two extensive galleries under a single roof. It hosts international exhibitions as well as collections of modern works and also contains the new Tretyakov Gallery and the topmost collections of Soviet art.
