Russian Federation, popularly known as Russia is a vast country stretching across Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. The federal district of Northwestern Russia consists of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Nenetsia, Karelia, Komi Republic, Leningrad Oblast, Murmansk Oblast, Novgorod Oblast and Pskov Oblast. The most famous is the Leningrad Oblast which was named after its principle city Leningrad.

Leningrad is now known as St. Petersburg and is one of the Popular Places in Russia. The region got its name for being the political and economic center of Russia even though it is located in the extreme west. Sochi is the most famous beach resort on the Black Sea and Volgograd is the new name of the historical city Stalingrad.

The other popular tourist spots of Russia are Kazan, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok and Nizhny Novgorod. While the center of the mountainous Ural region is Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk is the most popular city of Siberian region.
