Seychelles is a beautiful island in the continent of Africa. It is actually an archipelago nation comprising of 155 islands in total. These islands are situated in Indian Ocean and is about 1500 kilometer from Africa. Seychelles is bordered by the island of Madagascar on one side and on the western side lies Zanzibar. The southern part part is bordered by Reunion and Mauritius and to its southeast lies Mayotte and Comoros. Maldives and Suvadives are in the northeast side of Seychelles. The first recorded history is in the year 1502, when Vasco da Gama, Portuguese Admiral, first came over here and named it as islands of Admiral. This place was used as a transition point for trading in between Asia and Africa. The French began to take the whole control of these archipelago in 1756. then it was named as Jean Moreau de Sechelles. The Britishers took over the control from 1794 to 1812. The French administrator, Baptiste Queau de Quincy instead of fighting with the Britishers, negotiated with them and as a result the settlers continued to enjoy privileged position under the rule of British. Seychelles then emerged as a crown colony, which was separated from Mauritius. Today, Seychelles is a group of islands with their capital being Victoria.
