Fort Siloso

Fort Siloso, Singapore is a coastal artillery battery and bears its existence to the relation of the twelve coastal batteries which comprised the ‘Fortress Singapore’at the onset of the World War II. Fort Siloso was built in the year 1880 and later the fort became the concentration camp for the Japanese Prisoners of War in between the years 1942 to 1945.

One can definitely find remains of all the twelve batteries here but it will be wise to mention that the Fort Siloso hold a special case also because of the fact that it is the only restored battery. Another specialty of this Fort is that it is one of the only four batteries among all the twelve that was built by the British on Blakang Mati.

Fort Siloso in Singapore stands as a testimony of the colonial past and also stands as a reminder of the brutal war years.

In the year 1975, under Sentosa Development Corporation, the Fort Siloso, Singapore was opened to the public for the first time. In the present day, Fort Siloso in Singapore has been transformed into a military museum, with guns and other memorabilia related to wars on display. With these exhibits Fort Silosa has become an interesting tourist attraction in Singapore.

Fort Siloso, Singapore is opened for the visitors from 10 in the morning till 6 in the evening. The adults are charged S$8 to enter into the premise whereas the children are charged only S$5.

Fort Siloso in Singapore is known to house the largest collection of memorabilia
from the World War II. The life-sized replicas and interactive exhibits have been beautifully and authentically recreated. There are more than 245 photographs, documents and film clips exhibited in the Fort and the visitors can easily browse through them to gather an idea of the by gone years.

17th century guns and cannons that are put on display just outside are things to see and bask in the vigor of the past. The old tunnels of the fort are also something to explore that gives you a deeper insight of the war held.

The two new docudramas based on the war years, three new routes paved and periodical updating of the exhibits makes one visit to the Fort Siloso more interesting.

Reaching Siloso Point is also easy and convenient for the fact that Blue Line, Red Line Bus and the Siloso Beach Tram provide an easy access to the site from different location.
