The Cape Peninsula

Located in the southwestern tip of the African continent, lies the famous Cape Peninsula which is one of the most popular places in South Africa.

Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the False Bay, Cape Peninsula is blessed with beautiful beaches, rocky mountains, valleys and bays with a diverse range of flora and fauna. Cape Town, Simon's Town, Table Mountain National Park are some of the most famous tourist destinations of South Africa found in this peninsular region.

Cape Town, the second largest city of South Africa and the legislative capital of the country, is located near the Cape Good Hope.

Capetown experiences very hot summers from January to April. June and July are the winter months. The best time to visit the city is October and November. Capetown is well connected by air, road and railway with most of the places of South Africa

Historical monuments, buildings, museums, art galleries, parks, theatres, shopping complexes - Capetown has attractions for all age group and all kind of taste.

The Castle of Good Hope, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Rhodes Memorial, South African Parliament,Two Oceans Aquarium, Bo-Kaap Museum are some of the major interesting places to be seen in Capetown.

You can travel in train from Capetown to Simon's town which is known as the home to century old buildings and a magnificent Waterfront Emporium. There are number of museums and historical sites to be seen here like Simon's town Museum, SA Naval Museum, The Toy Museum, Bronze statue of Just Nuisance in Jubille Square Admiralty House, Lower North Battery, Old Naval Water Storage Tank , Martello Tower and Church of St. Francis which is said to be the oldest Anglican church in South Africa. With number of restaurants, pubs and hotels, Simon's town is a lively small place where you can do the sightseeing just by walking.

To the south of Simon's town is the famous Boulders beach which is a marine protected area and a part of Travel Mountain National Park. One has to give entry fee to enter it, but its worth the money. This is the only place on earth where you get a chance to swim with penguins as this beach is the colony of many African Penguins. But never try to be too close with the animals and they are seen in lesser numbers in September to October.

The Table Mountain National Park has an open access to all except at three points – Boulders beach, Silvermarine, Cape of Good Hope where one has to pay fee to visit the place. The park encompasses the majestic Table Mountain and famous Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. From Capetown, tourists can take cable car or can hike to reach the top of the Mountain. Breathtaking view of the sea, mountain and Cape town will lay before your eyes as you walk around the place.

To enjoy sunbathing, fishing, playing different water sports or just for watching the scenic beauty, one should visit the beaches and sea side villages at Fish Hoeke, Hout Bay, Kalk Bay or Kommetjie. Cape Peninsula is an ideal place to spend lovely time in the lap of nature but you will not be deprived of the modern amenities and facilities in the region.
