Festivals in Spain
Most of the towns in the country of Spain have their own festivals, besides the festivals that are celebrated nationally. The national festivals are quite a few in numbers and most of the festivals in Spain have some significance or the other. Many travelers and tourists arrive at Spain during the celebration of various festivals. Festivals in Spain are celebrated by the people of Spain almost every month.
In the month of January, the people of Spain celebrate Reyes Magos, in English it is known as the Epiphany. On the 6th of January, this festival is celebrated all over the country of Spain. Gifts are given to children as well as adults, on the evening of the previous day.
Music and fancy dress processions are organized to celebrate the occasion. In the later part of the month of February, Pero Palo festival is celebrated all across the country of Spain, and traditional legends and folklores are shared by the people. This festival is celebrated in Extremadura and Caceres. In the month of March, the people of Spain celebrate Fallas de San Jose, particularly in Valencia. Easter Holy Week or Semana Santa is one of the major and most significant festivals in Spain. Throughout the country of Spain, concerts and processions are organized and it is considered to be the most popular of all festivals in Spain. Great enjoyment ensues in the whole of Spain. April Fair takes place in Seville, Spain. The festival which honors St. Jordi is celebrated in Barcelona in late April. Corpus Christi is celebrated in the month of May. In the month of June, the people of Spain celebrate Hogueras de San Juan, a pagan festival. The streets in Alicante are decorated with lights, leaves and branches. The people celebrate the occasion by singing sanjuanera songs. Fiesta de San Fermin or the Running of the Bulls are celebrated in the month of July and in August, Spain celebrate Semana Grande. The month of September sees the celebration of Festival Internacional de Folklore en el Mediterraneo. In October, Spain celebrate the feast of El Pilar.
