Let us get into a brief history of the archaeological museums in Turkey. It was in 1881 when the construction of the main building started and and the initiative was taken by Osman Hamdi Bey. The whole construction was handled by the famous architect, Alexander Vallaury. This archaeological museum in Turkey is considered to be one of the fascinating structures in Istanbul designed in the neoclassical style. In 1883, Osman Hamdi Bey conceived the Ancient Eastern Works Museum as a Fine Arts School. Later on, the building was transformed to a museum and it was opened in 1935. Restoration works continued from 1963 to 1974.
