Pamukkale

Pamukkale has become one of the most sought after top attractions in Turkey because of its natural beauty.
Many kinds of natural formations are found allover the place. The tourism industry is very successful in Pamukkale because the government has helped in providing accommodations and transportations to the people coming here. The very name means “Cotton Castle” in the Turkish language. Denizli is the name of the province where Pamukkale is located. There are also many historical elements which draw the attention of the tourists coming to this country. The town of Denizli is just about 20 kilometer from this town. Without a tour to Pamukkale the whole tour of Turkey will remain incomplete.

The land in Pamukkale has been formed during the plate tectonic movements. There are records of frequent earthquakes in the past of this region. Chalk is the primary element which is found in the soil of this land. Calcium and hydrogen carbonate are the main ingredients which have formed the rocks here. There are also some of the radioactive materials which are found in Pamukkale. The natural chemical processes have resulted in the white layer on the rocks. The Pilocene period was also an important phase behind the formation of the land. Stalactites are also found in some places in this region.

Today, with the several helps from the government Pamukkale has become a world heritage site. Mammoth Hot Springs in USA has some similarities with this site.
The land did not come into focus until the late 20th century. During the early part of the previous century, the place was roughly used by the tourists who came here. Wastes were thrown into the hot springs and ultimately the area became polluted to a great extent. But after the site came to the notice of the government of the country there were precautions which were taken for the betterment of the place. Soon after this the area was recovered and the place was tuned into a protected one. Today there are many hotels in the region but they have to abide by the rules laid by the government.

Do not miss the chance to visit the hanging limestone wall which is a natural formation that has taken a peculiar shape. Today, tourists can only go to this place with bare feet. UNESCO has taken all the preventive measures to protect the site from further pollution. There is also a cave of carbon dioxide which is known as Plutonium or the Place of Pluto.
