The common belief in Brazil is that the St. Anthony will bring good fortune on marriages. It is also very common in Brazil to throw a big party on this day. All the members of the family as well as the friends are invited on this occasion.

The unmarried girls perform a ritual called Simpatias on the Dia dos Namorados in search for a good husband or boyfriend. Messages are exchanged among the couples on a large scale. Another traditional mode of celebration is to exchange greetings cards.
